By Steph Feeney (Courtice, Canada)
I actually got this album as a birthday present from my dear best friend (and basically big sister I never had), Megan. She remembered I had mentioned that I was interested in adding this album to my CD collection, and at the time it was weird of me to even think or consider purchasing Justin Timberlake's solo work because while I was a fan of *Nsync - I was not primarily interested in the solo careers that spawned from the group. I didn't care for Justin Timberlake's solo material released from his first album, and I was not to pleased with J.C. Chasez's solo work by any means, either. Infact, I had heard Justin Timberlake's first solo album in a record store back when it was released and it actually grated my nerves, no matter how overplayed both songs and videos were I could not grasp onto either Justin or J.C.'s solo material.
However, when I heard some of the material from this album I was immediately intrigued. It was just so interesting to see and hear Justin Timberlake evolve from his days in *Nsync and mature into more of an artist in his own right, this is a completely different ballgame for Justin Timberlake so upon purchasing this album, no one should even think to expect something like his first album or anything from his *Nsync days because that is completely out the window here.
Upon receiving this album, I wasn't sure what to expect because all I had heard and knew was what I heard on the radio and on my television. I took it home, later that night put it in my CD player and just let the music flow. Much to my delight I fell in love with the album and it's one of my favourite albums in my entire collection. That's the situation with most of the albums my best friend gives me, they hold a special place in my heart because they came from her.
The album was co-produced by Timbaland and company. I think that was a wise move in the right direction for Justin Timberlake as it helped him to move away from his bubble gum pop image that he carried with him for so long. The songs have similar arrangements musically but at the same time, a lot of the songs have their own different substance and feel, the songs are fun, sexy, dark, serious and each have a groove of their own. It's a very simplistic R&B/pop album at it's best.
The album kicks off with the title track, "FutureSex/LoveSound" and what a great song to kick start a wonderful album. It's a sexual song and is obviously about sex between two people. Plain and obvious. "SexyBack" has become a staple for Justin Timberlake and one of his signature songs, and rightfully so. It's a fun, catchy track. Funny how when I first heard this song on the radio it grated my nerves a lot but I grew to love it, what a great hook.
"Sexy Ladies" is enjoyable, and the beat kind of makes you want to just groove in your chair. "My Love" is one of those songs with a hook that just makes you want to dance, it jumps out and grabs you. "LoveStoned" is a darker song but another one with a great hook and "What Goes Around (Comes Around)" has become yet another staple in Justin Timberlake's song collection. "What Goes Around (Comes Around)" is the song that actually made me consider wanting this album, what a great song with such a strong, direct meaning behind it. The lyrics are also very intelligent.
"Chop Me Up" is another sexy song from Justin Timberlake. I think it's meant to be tongue and cheek, it's a real sexy groove song and it's not a bad ear catcher. I think it's a little fun when Timberlake raps "parental descretion is advised", I even think it's fun that they used slow motion when they mention the title in the song. Haha. Great stuff.
"Damn Girl" is probably the only song on the album I would say is a dud. It really grates on my nerves when I hear it, I tried to love it but it just isn't happening for me. I usually skip this song. "Summer Love" is a nice summer time song and a real ear catcher.
"Until The End Of Time" is a more mellow R&B groove. A really nice song with great vocals, and the back up vocals are even wonderful.
"Losing My Way" seems like a haunting track about someone battling addictions and realising that they have a problem because they've lost everyone around them because of their problem, a heavy duty track from Justin. Very deep lyrics here.
"(Another Song) All Over Again" is just a slow love song to cap it off the album. I think it's a nice way to the end album after having some tongue and cheek songs, fun songs and songs that deal with serious topics it's nice to end the album on a sweet note.
Overall Justin really showed maturity and evolved with this album. He's not the cheek squeezing, cute little boy-bander anymore, he's a more grown up man, talking about adult themes and topics and he stepped out of the *Nsync shadows with this album and truely came out into his own as a musician with this album. Even his looks are more mature.
This album surprised me, like I said - I wasn't sure what to expect but quite personally I am happy and delighted to say that this album is amazing. This album is a new direction for Justin as an artist, musician, and song writer and I think this new direction is a step in the write direction for this future recordings.
Thank you again, to Megan for this wonderful addition to my collection. She truly is the best friend anyone could ever ask for. I give the album 5 stars not just because the music on this album is great, but because I received it from my best, dearest and closest friend.

His first solo album, "Justified", met much success and his follow-up album, "Futuresex/Lovesounds" is even better, with Timberlake feeling his oats and ditching his nice guy persona for a more sensual, adult groove. He still drives the girls crazy and has built an even more solid fan base after numerous appearances on "Saturday Night Live" where, with help from Andy Samberg, he has shown the world he has a great sense of humor, which has earned him more credibility among the young males of the demographic to which he caters.
With help, as always, from Timbaland, and with such guest stars as Three Six Mafia and T.I., Timberlake brings a fine production of rockin' beats, lyrics about sex and heartbreak and a solid album of which most is great material with very little filler. This is one of those few compilations that comes along that has a lot of singles released and no matter how many times they are played ad nauseum on the radio, they are still enjoyable to listen to on your own time.
Below is a track-by-track description with a numeric rating on a scale of one to ten.
Track 1: FutureSex/LoveSound--(8)--a good, heavy-hitting track to start the album off with. Easily danceable, definitely sensual, this showcases Timberlake's new sound, his new persona. It's fresh, it's rich and you'll want to dance right along with it.
Track 2: SexyBack--(8)--the first single from the album. Still has staying power, despite being radio-raped. Allowed the public a sneak peek at the sensuality that Timberlake had newly embraced and let run through all of the tracks on this album.
Track 3: Sexy Ladies--(8)--another track with a good beat that is similar to the beat used in "Futuresex/Lovesound". It's hard to stop yourself from dancing while driving when this is playing in the car.
Track 4: My Love--(7)--an upbeat danceable love song from Timberlake to his lady love. This has also achieved a lot of radioplay but it still just as good after repeat listens. T.I. lends a hand with this track and, just as with the rest of them, we hear a lot of Timbaland on this track as well.
Track 5: LoveStoned/I Think She Knows--(8)--A track to follow in the 'N Sync steps of falling for a girl that he meets in a club. Here, Timberlake starts off with yet another strong, danceable track and leads into one of the many over-a-minute-long interludes he uses on this album.
Track 6: What Goes Around (Comes Around)--(10)--Nice and long with some great beats about a man who's been wronged by his cheating lover who is going to get her just desserts.
Track 7: Chop Me Up--(10)--Another incredible song to follow up the previous incredible song. The beat is amazing, the Three Six Mafia raps are put together very well and this is easily one of the most solid tracks on the album. You will be blasting this when it comes on.
Track 8: Damn Girl--(5)--This track is one of the least liked on the album. It doesn't have the same flow and it doesn't feel like it's put together as tightly.
Track 9: Summer Love--(9)--This is a great song to crank up in the car on a hot summer night while you're cruising along the winding roads of the neighborhood. Great beats once again!
Track 10: Until The End Of Time--(6)--this song sounds like it could have come off of any one of Prince's albums, since it features his signature beat. One of the more down-tempo songs on the album, it still holds its own as a ballad. The album version does not feature Beyonce, as the radio version had.
Track 11: Losing My Way--(7)--a good slow jam about people who need someone to hear their plight because lately, life hasn't been going so well for them.
Track 12: (Another Song) All Over Again--(5)--another forgettable track along the same lines as "Damn Girl". This is another ballad on the album but not very solid.

I was not a huge fan of hip hop or Justin Timberlake in the past, but this CD is awesome! It has some great dance tunes as well as ballads. I highly recommend it!
